Host a home
Every Oasis home has a host family at its heart: a Christian family who lives on site, opens their home and their table, and walks with each Community Member through a season of growth.
What is a host family?
A host family lives at an Oasis home, beside the Community Members, and shares daily life with them: meals around the table, prayer, the work of keeping a home, and the hard weeks as well as the good ones. Many Community Members have never lived beside a Christian family or watched a marriage work through a hard week. A host family lets them see it up close.
At Oasis on Orangewood, the Stephens family is the host family. Meet them.
What hosting looks like
- One-on-one discipleship. Meet with each Community Member at least every other week, using a discipleship study your home chooses, such as Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby.
- Goals. Help each Community Member set goals for faith, career, education and finances, and look back at them together every other month.
- An open table. Share meals, Bible study, prayer and worship nights, and neighborhood outreach, alongside trusted local churches.
- A shared home. Keep the home safe and welcoming, and lead the work everyone shares in caring for it.
- Grow and go. Walk with each Community Member through the three-year rhythm, then send them off well.
How Oasis walks with you
Host families do not serve alone. A host family from outside Oasis serves under the oversight and mentorship of Oasis's leadership, who pray with you, meet with you, and help with the questions that come with opening a home.
Through our Host Family Sponsorship, partners can help a host family at a new Oasis home with its housing costs, so the family can be more present.
Who we are praying for
We are praying for Christian families who:
- love Jesus and want to make disciples in their own home
- share the faith in our Statement of Faith
- have a heart for hospitality, and for people in a season of transition, most often young adults
- belong to a local church and are glad to work alongside it
Some host families open their own home in their own city. Others may move into a home Oasis has found, like Hillside Oasis in Washougal, Washington, which we are exploring now.
Not sure yet?
Asking does not commit you to anything. Tell us a little about your family below. We will write back, and if it seems a fit, we will set a time to talk and pray together.
